Sharon Yavis painted whimsical and beautiful paintings. She was one of the South's best known contemporary artists and was especially recognized for her "Beach People", which are actually large scale wall pieces that are first sawed out of wood, then painted with oils. When she got the news that she had breast cancer, it was devastating. But through the surgery and the treatments, she stayed focused on creating her art. It brought meaning to her life and had always given her a great sense of joy. Her paintings are in the Montgomery Museum of Art and in dozens of corporate collections. She was often commissioned to create as many as 15 to 20 pieces for new corporate offices, daycare centers, and health care facilities because her work makes people feel great. Sharon had a masters degree in art and won numerous regional and national awards for her work. She passed away on November 1, 2001. |
