George Williams was born in 1911 and grew up in Clinton Louisiana where he was born. He started carving wood sculpture to stay awake when he worked the late shift at a lumberyard. He is well known for his carved male and female figures, which sometimes are dressed and sometimes are not dressed. They are painted with enamel and then varnished. He also did a few other images, including the Statue of Liberty. He is not well now, lives in a nursing home, and is no longer working. He was included in the exhibition, "Passionate Visions of the American South" and his work is in the permanent collections of Birmingham Museum of Art and the National Museum of American Art Smithsonian Institution just to name a few.
