FRED WEBSTER

Fred Webster was a onetime school principal who lived across the street from the school that he guided for years. He and his wife began making carvings of Biblical figures and stories --- he would carve them and she would help paint them. The figures reached from plain carvings of Gabriel blowing his horn to intricate settings which feature more than a dozen angels. About all of the carvings are of a religious nature. The work became very fashionable among collectors in the South. Sadly his wife got Alzheimer's Disease a few years ago finally having to be admitted to a nursing home. Fred stopped carving and spent most of his time at the nursing home, sitting with his wife even if she did not know him. After her death, he began carving again but only did a few pieces. He seemed to have lost his obsession for the art and died shortly after that.
