ALBERT WAGNER

The Reverend Albert Wagner was born in 1924 in Arkansas and now lives in Ohio where he moved with his mother and brothers at the age of seventeen. He is a self taught artist and preacher living in the inner city where he works to change the lives of those living in the community. Albert wanted to paint those living in the community. He wanted to paint since he was five years old, but there was nothing, not even an old piece of cardboard, to work on ... but he could not be bitter with anyone because what seemed to have been lost has all come to pass at its proper time. Albert's paintings and assemblages done over the last twenty years address the human condition, his difficult life, and the struggles of black Americans. His work was included in the opening exhibition in 1995 at the American Visionary Art Museum.
