L.T. "THUNDERBOLT" THOMAS

The Reverend Lilion T. Thomas was born October 9, 1904 in Calvert, TX. He became a cotton farmer, and then a preacher, serving as the pastor of a number of country churches around Calvert. In the 1940's he began drawing in his spare time to keep busy. The subjects of his drawings were the outlaws Clyde Barrow, Bonnie Parker, and Pretty Boy Floyd. He used pencils, ball-point pen, and crayons. Sometimes his figures are shown riding horses or primitive planes. His art was included in the exhibition, "Spirited Journeys: Self-Taught Texas Artists of the Twentieth Century". The Rev. Thomas passed away in 1995.
