Henry "Squrrel" Stone was born in Sand Hill, SC in 1938
and know lived near Hemingway with his brother. His house
was easy to identify because at the beginning of the road,
Henry had nailed to the trees many of his paintings. He
worked as a farmer for many years and then his health began
to deteriorate. Ten years ago he began to paint, on anything
he could. If there are boards or pieces of tin he would
paint them. He would even paint on Coke bottles, cans,
cereal boxes, whatever is at hand. Several years ago Henry
was house bound because of major surgery and he painted
every surface, food container and box in his house. His
brother said "I was afraid he might start next on the dog!".
Henry's work is included in the South Carolina State Museum.
Henry Stone passed away on November 8, 2008.
