Hugo's interest in art began early on when Sister Mary Katherine Lee suggested he make Noah's Arks out of snack time milk cartons. From then on no paper product escaped his scissors and crayons. The progression to wood was a natural one. It allowed Hugo to make larger and more permanent constructions as well as lending itself to more dynamic paintings surfaces. Hugo is a Florida artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the U.S.. His medium is primarily acrylic and sometimes he incorporates found objects, glitter, sand, paper, etc. Best known for brightly colored and somewhat cartoonish paintings he has also produced numerous dynamic plywood cutouts, constructions, and also painted furniture. Virtually every surface from corrugated cardboard to trash can lids and car hoods have been enhanced by his brush. |
