Matilda Pennic was born in 1956 in Alabama in a family home filled with music and a lot of children. Her truck driver father played the guitar and the harmonica. Her mother was a singer, rarely without a song. Matilda loved working with her hands. She attended high school and nursing school. She had a very stormy marriage to an abusive military man. She left him and she and her two children went to Montgomery Alabama where she had to struggle to raise them. After working with the elderly in nursing homes, she became the housekeeper for an artist. She saved thrown away art supplies of her employer and tried painting. The memories of her childhood flooded back, and Matilda began painting, first only two works during four years of trying. Then after encouragement to paint full time, she made the break from other work and now creates memory paintings everyday.
