Karin makes bowls with polymer clay, they are not painted. The designs are put together using different colors of clay in a disc 1-2 inches in height and up to 10 inches in diameter. This disc is then pinched and stretched into a "cane" or long tube, mimicking the ancient glass technique of millifoiori. Cut on cross sections the intricate designs are painstakingly put together, taking upwards of 20 hours to complete the cane. One cane, if made large enough can yield hundreds of slices. Canes are limited editions for seldom can they be exactly matched in design and color. Once formed into a bowl, the clay is hardened in an oven to its finished form.
