Summer/Fall 2006

New Location on Hilton Head Island. After 15 years as a semi private gallery, we decided to go full time and made a move to a much larger space. Folk art has become so popular we decided we need to be in a more public location. If you've missed hearing from us, it's because it has taken an enormous amount of time to move more than 6,000 paintings ... and even longer to re-hang them in our new gallery. But we are up and running ... and getting rave reviews. Please come see us if you visit the island. We are now located at #15 Bridge Center. Email ahead for directions at folkart@hargray.com or give us a call at 1-800-365-5278.

Lots of New Artists. Once we decided to go public, we wanted to add a number of new artists that we have known about ... people who are self taught but who do extremely fine images (rather than primitive). Plus we wanted to have a great selection of art in all price ranges.

Chris Roberts-Antineau. We bought our first piece of her art more than 20 years ago at The Smithsonian. She does unusual paintings. The paintings are actually pieces of fabric sewn together so perfectly it's difficult to believe they are really sewn. Incredible, really. And she has a great sense of humor you'll see in her pieces. Click here to view Chris's work.

Jo Thomas. A highly accomplished, ward winning sculptor working in clay. Every piece is an original ... no molds are used. Click here to view Jo's work.

Rick Shelley. He makes what he calls Baltimore Bugs. You'll love this jewelry fashioned like big bugs, but with stylish stones. Click here to view Rick's work.

Robin Cooper. Robin's work is very creative. Robin is a collage artist but not in the typical sense. She sketches an outline of an image on canvas that she wishes to create. Next separate large canvases are painted with acrylics to develop the color palette. Then the painted canvases are hand cut into a multitude of shapes. Finally the cut pieces are glued creating shapes and textures that builder, layer by layer onto the background canvas. Click here to view Robin's work.

Marilyn Andrews. Marilyn is a self taught potter and has been hand building stoneware pieces to sell since 1976. Click here to view Marilyn's work.

Diane Dunham. Diane's attention to line, composition and use of color is truly fascinating. Her influence comes from her Louisiana heritage and the Gullah Sea Islands of South Carolina where she now makes her home. Click here to view Diane's work.

Greg Pelner. Greg does bold, distinct drawings of animals, angels and nudes. His work is in many important outsider art collections. We are proud to now being carrying his work. Click here to view Greg's work.

Laura Crosby. Laura paints wonderful little paintings in watercolor and does collages from found objects. Prints are also available of her work. Click here to view Laura's work.

Barbara Harnack. Barbara works in "American" Raku creating one of a kind sculptures. Click here to view Barbara's work.

Rosa and Winton Eugene. South Carolina potters Rosa and Winton Eugene have successfully developed a unique line of functional and decorative stoneware. Click here to view their work.

American Visionary Art Museum. The next exhibit at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore titled "Home and Beast" opens October 7, 2006 and runs through September 2, 2007. Home and Beast is an exploration of the very notition of "home" as well as of our relationship and responsibility to the animal world. If you are in the Baltimore area be sure to stop in and see this great exhibit.

Thanks for Viewing!: Because of your visits to our website, we have one of the top art websites in the country ... more than 300,000 visitors a month ... and still growing. We're pleased that so many people are interested in Outsider Art. And, if you like, we'll automatically send you new images of all new artists we get, when we add them. Many collectors look for newly discovered artists when their work first becomes available. Please email at folkart@hargray.com if you would like to receive these notices or to be added to our email list to receive our next newsletter. If you already received this newsletter via email you are probably already on the list and do not need to request a second time to receive it. We will automatically send it to you.
