Jake McCord was born in 1945 in Georgia. He lived and
worked on the family farm for more than thirty years. Jake
and the whole family, including Jake and his eleven brothers
and sisters, worked planting and picking crops. In the
1970's he started working for the city, cutting grass in the
summer and driving a truck in the winter. He started
painting around 1984. The sources of his art are television
... he has six sets and plays at least two or three at all
times ... and his childhood. His favorite subjects are farm
animals, house pets, women, and houses. He paints in bright
colors on plywood. His art was included in the exhibition
"Flying Free" in 1997 and one piece shown on this web page
"You Can Live Forever" was included in the exhibition "We
are Not Alone" at the American Visionary Art Museum in
1999-2000. Also Black Girl in Bikini was included in the
exhibition Holy H20 at the American Visionary Art Museum in
2005-2005. Jake's work is in the permanent collection of
Morris Museum of Art and the St. James Place Folk Art
Museum.
