PETER LOOSE

Peter Loose was born in Silver Spring Maryland in 1963. From his earliest days he has been fascinated by nature and spent his childhood splashing in creeks and hiking in the woods. School was always a chore but it led eventually to a job as a state park naturalist, and as a naturalist for the Audubon Society. In 1986 he moved to Georgia to work at the Sandy Creek Nature Center. When there, he tried water colors to do a guidebook Center, but decided it was too hard. Then during a period of emotional stress and physical illness, the tried again. This time he began to create strange little paintings dominated by splotches of color on typing paper. Encouraged by friends he soon switched to acrylics. Self taught and painting now since 1987, Peter builds and paints whimsical portraits of animals both real and imagined. His style, bright colors and bold imagery, is gaining attention from collections. He still lives in Georgia with his wife Sandy and shares their five acres with formerly abandoned animals. His current work includes his paintings, birdhouses, and sculptural musical instruments, his trademark being snake shaped dulcimers.
