Chris Lewallen was born May 10, 1965 in Georgia. He works full time as a paramedic/firefighter. Before this he had many jobs such as cutting grass, selling horse and cattle feed, and working in a hospital. Sometimes his experiences turn up in his art. He has been painting and drawing as long as he can remember. Chris paints with enamel paint, sometimes house paint, on boards, pieces of tin, tree limbs, vines, or anything else he can find. He paints animals, peoples faces, lizards and snakes. he likes to include humor, bright colors and "positive things". Sometimes he writes words on the pictures he makes. He sold his first piece in 1992. He was stimulated by the folk art of his neighbor, R.A. Miller, who convinced him to take up painting. His work is featured in two New York galleries and more than a dozen Southern galleries. It is also sold in the American Museum of Folk Art and is included in private collections throughout the U.S., Europe and Australia. Although he's elated to have his work in de Stadshof Museum Voor Naieve en Outsider Kunst in the Netherlands, Chris is just as excited that it's in a corporate collection of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream and in the Monkey Barrel Pizza shop in his hometown. |
