In the universe of artist David Lee, a showgirl
contemplates a feather falling from her headdress and in
that pose suggests a sense of human wonder at the world; two
children wearing hats ride a pig; and a roly-poly family
poses as if for a camera during a night out at the theater.
With generously enlarged figures in the rich primary colors
of a child's palette, the warm witty paintings of David Lee
have been compared to the works of Botero, Bombois, and
Beryl Cook. But the spin he puts on his subject is uniquely
his own. A retired New York interior designer for the
wealthy and famous, Davis Lee has traveled widely through
Europe, Asia, Mexico, and Central America. His paintings are
in private collections throughout the United States and are
widely shown in galleries, predominately in the South where
he lives.
