Charles Kinney, known as Charley, was a storyteller, both verbally and through his drawings. His favorite stories were about a "chain-rattling haint" that haunted his two room log cabin. Luckily for Kinney, the "haint" stayed in the attic most of the time. Charley painted as a hobby since first grade, but after the farm was "let go wild", he had more time and began to pursue his hobby with greater vigor. Kinney painted a few pictures of animals and he created some painted concrete sculptures that were placed in front of his log cabin. Charley was included in several shows of Kentucky folk art, including shows at the Kentucky Fine Arts Gallery and a 1984 exhibition sponsored by the Mint Museum.
