The last living artist member of the "Toller Holler"
Kinneys, Hazel Kinney has a lot of time on her hands these
days and paints a lot of bible pictures. Charley Kinney, her
brother in law, who died in 1991, was the creator of the now
well-known Kentucky "haint" paintings, and Noah Kinney, her
husband, who also died in 1991, was famous for his spirited
carvings of animals. Hazel began drawing seriously after the
death of the other family members. Her drawings are an
attempt at realism and many collectors are buying her work
to round out their collections and include pieces by all
three Kinneys. Hazel also makes a few clay figures, but her
drawings are her best work. Her drawings are in the Kentucky
Folk Art Center and the Southern Ohio Museum. In 1995 her
work was included in an exhibition called "Slow Time: Art by
Charley, Noah and Hazel Kinney"
