Elwyn is one of the country's finest self taught artists.
His style is anything but naive! Working in a place that
created reproductions of antiques, he learned to carve wood
and make beautiful furniture. After befriending Doyle
Fellows, a famous portrait painter, he began working as his
apprentice and studio assistant. It was during this time
that his love of art blossomed. Elwyn admits to being
greatly influenced by the great modernists, by mythology,
and by nature. He uses his carving skills to create images
in blocks of mahogany, which he then paints. Often his
sculptures are embedded with mosaic tiles. Many of his
paintings are on a grand scale and represent contemporary
expressions of primitive themes, mythological characters,
and his own spiritual journey. Elwyn's work is shown in
numerous galleries and has been included in several museum
shows.
