Alyne Harris was born in 1943 and has lived all of her
life in Florida, with the exception of three years spent in
Wisconsin when she was a child. She is a distant relative of
artist Jesse Aaron. During all of her years she has felt
compelled to create. Even as a young child, Alyne poured
over whatever picture books were available to her, and her
mother encouraged her interest in art. She has said she is
driven to paint, often all night, and panics when she does
not have the funds to buy more paint. Alyne has always had
domestic service jobs, cooking, and cleaning until recently.
She is now working in a restaurant. She has the natural
ability to choose color and plan her design as she executes
her paintings. Her paintings may be on canvas, pieces of
masonite, paper, boards, or metal. The varied subject matter
includes flowers, religious pictures, haints, scenes of
black people and memory scenes from childhood. Alyne's work
is included in many museum collections including the
Rockford Art Museum, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the
Asheville Art Museum.
