EVELYN GIBSON

Evelyn Gibson, an African American visionary artist, illustrates mainly biblical scenes in an art moderne style, with her forms often posed as though they are models for a fashion magazine. Gibson, a stenographer, saved for five years in order to take a trip to the Holy Land in 1985. In 1992 she began to paint recalled visualizations of her trip. One of Gibson's paintings hangs in her church, the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Georgia.
