EDDIE OWENS MARTIN
St. EOM (Eddie Owens Martin) was a unique visionary artist who created a brilliantly colored and patterned assemblage of buildings, shrines, gates, and walls at his Georgia home. After 35 years in New York, where he was a hustler, transvestite, model, dancer, artist and fortune teller, St. EOM, born Eddie Owens Martin in 1908 to a poor family of sharecroppers, built this Marion County art environment on four acres. He also produced paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceremonial costumes, a and ritual objects and jewelry. There is an organization dedicated to preserving "The Land of Pasquan" as his environment was called and a book about it by Tom Patterson. St. EOM passed away in 1986.
