Ran is a self-taught artist from a tiny Texas town. He
thinks he might be Van Gogh reincarnated. He owns a used
book store and became fascinated with art books of Van Gogh
paintings ... literally taught himself to paint using Van
Gogh style and brushstrokes. (Most people don't realize that
Van Gogh was, in fact, a self-taught artist!) Ran said "So
far I am doing better than Van Gogh. I've sold more than 33
paintings and Van sold one to his sister-in-law. That's sort
of like selling a painting to your Momma. I still have both
of my ears. And I haven't killed myself". His most
interesting and creative paintings are those in which he
takes characters from a variety of Van Gogh paintings then
puts them all together in an entirely new situation. Or one
of his "master" paintings --- really large scale piece--- he
painted all 57 of Van Gogh's floral arrangements in one
painting. but they are sitting in a flower shop as if Van
Gogh is due to come by and pick them up. Ran Horn has a
great sense of humor! He's even listed in the town's
brochure. (Of course there's not a lot of competition other
then The Smokehouse Restaurant.)
