Scott Collins was born on Christmas Day 1950 in Hickory
Grove SC. After high school he moved to North Carolina where
he worked in a gas station, operated heavy equipment and
repaired appliances. In 1995 he started making figures out
of wire. One of the first was an eagle. When a stranger
offered good money for it, he started making more figures,
some of which have been purchased to grace public places
like the Charlotte Airport. He has made airplanes, chickens,
fish and bears. Scott thinks of his work as a hobby and does
not think of himself as an artist. His work was included in
the exhibition "Wind in My Hair" in 1996 at the American
Visionary Art Museum and is also included in their permanent
collection.
