Richard is an African-American artist who creates
paintings of Ancient Kings and Queens on scraps of wood,
turtle shells, furniture or almost anything he can find that
will take the house paint that he uses. Often times, he adds
pieces of pine cones to accent certain parts of the
paintings. Now in his sixties, he worked as a cook, handyman
and yard man for years before suddenly starting to paint. He
is considered one of the top African-American artists in the
South, although he has an on-again/off-again art career due
to drinking, house fires, poor health and other mishaps. His
work has been featured in numerous museum collections and at
The House of Blues in various parts of the country. Our
collection includes some of his earliest and best work and
we have loaned many of the pieces for museum
exhibitions.
