Because the first major museum collection of folk art featured all African American artists, many people wrongly assume that folk art is an African American art form. It's not. Yet, many of the best known artists are African American ... and many people prefer to collect only the art by people of color. Some of these artists have become true "masters" in the folk art world and demand the highest prices when collections are sold.
