Antonio Adams is nineteen years old and currently lives
in Ohio. he makes cat-robots out of thrown aside pieces of
lumber and construction paper. Like Vaudevillian puppets or
Victorian dolls, they have beautifully evocative smiles, and
radiate a strangely calming presence, almost Buddha-like. He
has made a number of them, naming each one, turning part of
his home into a museum dedicated to their preservation. He
is slowly creating his own language, giving each cat statue
its own surrealistic history in accompanying essays. Antonio
works days at a lumberyard, making his art at night in his
room., which houses all the cat-robots he has made,
cataloged and organized. He also draws portraits of people.
Antonio does not wish to become famous, or make loads of
cash. He makes his art because he has to. This compulsion to
make the art is a valuable mystery. Antonio has been
included in a group show of disabled artists called "Art
Thing" which came from an object Antonio made (a felt pillow
with the words ART THING drawn on it in textile paint).
